HEALING A BROKEN HEART

Heartbreak happens to us all at some point or another. It's even suggested that the stress and trauma of heartbreak can be similar to real physical pain. This is why it feels so incredibly terrible and world-shattering. It can lead to self-esteem issues, isolation, and depression. Even comfort from friends and family provide little to no help in alleviating the pain of loss or rejection.

There are even step-by-step guides and suggestions from well-meaning people to help the broken hearted move on.

  • Allowing yourself to cry.
Crying is a physical and emotional release. It allows you to express your loss openly and freely. However, crying comes more naturally for some people than others. For some, it will take time.

  • Changing your perspective.
Changing your perspective will help you look at the situation differently, allowing you to see that things are not as bad as they seem. This is not an easy task though. In such situations, people can't seem to help how they think or feel.

  • Finding activities to engage in.
Finding joy in activities and hobbies is an effective way to manage the pain but it's temporary and fleeting. Many people find themselves quickly losing interest no matter how many new activities they join.

You can alleviate some of the pain, loneliness, and sense of powerlessness, but these are only short term salve. Even with the best advice, you have to ask

  • how you will cry?

  • how are you going to look at things differently?

  • how will you move on when your heart and mind is reeling from a sense of loss and hopelessness?
