Is there any meaning to our struggles and worries?

Is there any meaning to our struggles and worries?

When faced with overwhelming worry and the feeling that we’re just struggling to get by every day, it’s not uncommon to ask if there is any meaning to our stress, worries, and struggles. There has to be some point to it, because the thought that our problems exist just to make our lives difficult is a hard pill to swallow.

It is inevitable that we go through many periods of hardship in our lives. The first time we have our hearts broken can feel like the end of the world and could take months or years to finally get to the point where our life feels normal again.

The struggle of trying to find a steady job, make a basic living, pay rent, and buy food may be another common hardship for many people. The anxiety and worry that accompanies not knowing where our next meal or rent payment will come from can drive many people to do desperate things.

Getting retrenched is something that may be a reality for many people. That may cause anxiety over money, uncertainty over future career prospects, and most likely will have a negative effect on self-esteem and outlook on life.

These difficult periods can be short or last for years. Some struggles may last a lifetime and you just have to learn to live with it.

The reality is that bad things happen, and that is just part of life. Whatever meaning exists is going to be very personal to the individual and their situation. Some people are able to find meaning in their struggles; and they can use that to empower themselves, make positive changes in their thinking, and in their lives. Some people cannot find any meaning or reason to their struggles, and may end up getting lost emotionally and psychologically.

Your problems are not so different from other people’s problems, but how it affects you and how you view the issues, how you deal with it, and what you learn and take away from it are all you own. Your struggles are very personal. Your pain, and life’s difficulties are your own, and how you choose to process these things may be how you come to discover some kind of meaning. That meaning will be very personal.

To get to any meaning, insight, or revelation will require a deeper level of understanding about yourself, and who you are. If you haven’t taken the time to sit, think, and reflect on yourself and your own life, there’s a good chance you’re going to go through life feeling lost and unsure; and your struggles will feel pointless and meaningless.

Join us at College of Allied Educators to learn more about yourself, what motivates you, and how you can find happiness, meaning, and success in work, love, and life.
