This full-day workshop builds on the introductory experience of “Looking Beyond the Image,” moving from personal exploration into practical ways of supporting children through images, art, and creative processes. Participants will gain a grounded understanding of how children express meaning beyond words, alongside simple, adaptable strategies that can be used in educational, caregiving, or support settings. The workshop also invites participants to begin considering how art and creative processes can be meaningfully and appropriately applied when working with children.
Learning Outcome:
- Explain how children communicate thoughts, feelings, and experiences through images, symbols, and creative expression
- Describe how to observe children’s artwork and behaviours with curiosity, while avoiding over-interpretation or assumptions
- Facilitate simple, safe art-based activities to support emotional expression and reflection
- Use images and creative processes as tools to support communication, engagement, and connection with children
- Adapt creative approaches to different ages, needs, and everyday contexts (e.g., classroom, home, support settings)
- Recognise appropriate next steps when additional support may be needed, including when to seek consultation, supervision, or referral
