What is it that you believe in?

Figuring out what you believe in sounds pretty easy. What you believe should be a simple matter of trust and faith that things are a certain way. However, it’s a very big question and the only thing easy about it is how lost it can make people feel if they can’t answer the question.

Typically, when a question like this is asked, it involves religion; but it doesn’t necessarily have to. Each person, regardless of religion, has a personal belief in something.

For example,

  • You may believe in the inherent goodness of people, while someone else may think people are tricky and can’t be trusted.
  • You may believe that life is inherently difficult and everyone should get what they can over anyone else.
  • You may believe that people can change for the better while another person may think otherwise.

This can apply to personal values as well. Have you thought about what your personal values are?

  • Are you committed to excellence?
  • Do you believe in balancing your life around work and leisure or just work or just leisure?
  • Are you calculating about your finances and spending or are you easy-going about it?

This question can also be an abstract belief about life, love, relationships, and your personal place in the world and the universe.

Some people believe they are here for a specific purpose and reason. Some believe they are here for a reason but that reason is only knowable to some higher being. Some people may not believe they are here for a reason at all.

This question is very important to ask yourself and consider because what you believe can greatly inform what you decide to do, the choices you make in life, and how you deal with difficulties that come your way. This can have tremendous effect on your happiness.

So what is it that you believe in?

There is no right or wrong answer. You just have to find your answer, whatever that may be. In doing so, you may find yourself; maybe even a better self.

POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY
Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology (PGDICP) is a counselling psychology course accredited by the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC). The part-time Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology programme focuses on developing and enhancing experiential knowledge and skills through a holistic approach. Some of the subjects covered include Counselling Children, Addiction Intervention, Crisis Intervention, and Family Therapy.  

ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY
Advanced Diploma in Counselling Psychology (ADICP) trains students to apply appropriate counselling skills in different situations while understanding their underlying theories. The ADICP programme introduces students to the nature of psychology and relates it to the theories and concepts of counselling. Students move on to explore themselves in order to promote personal growth and self-awareness, acquiring the key attributes of a competent counsellor and the proper methods of applying those skills.

DIPLOMA IN COUNSELLING PSYCHOLOGY
Diploma in Counselling Psychology (DCPSY) is a counselling course covering a range of conceptual and functional skills in counselling. It trains students to apply appropriate counselling psychology skills in different situations, and equips students with the ability to work effectively as a counsellor.

Do you need someone to talk to?

Feeling troubled or having issues that need someone to talk and be listened to without judgement and worry of disclosure? CAE has counsellors who can work with you to gain clarity empathetically. They are trained at the College of Allied Educators and receive supervision from qualified and registered clinical supervisor to ensure your issue can be attended to sensitively and competently.

All conversations are kept in the strictest of confidence.

Do not allow your issue to escalate, talk about it. Counselling can be that avenue for you to work through your anxiety, distress, or other psycho-emotional stressors.

This is provided free of charge, and your privacy will be protected and kept in the strictest of confidence
