Should I consider online counselling?

Should I consider online counselling?

Despite the positive benefits of working from home, there are issues that may arise from this arrangement. Over the coming weeks and months, as more people work from home, they’ll be faced with these issues and will have to find ways of dealing with them.

More people may fall into conflicts with their families being cooped up together for so long together. People will find they have a difficult time balancing work time and personal time, and may even have a hard time dealing with work stress and anxiety as the lines between work and home blur. Many may end up feeling isolated and lonely, within days of working from home.

There are ways to deal with them, but they require some effort and persistence. Perhaps you’ve run into these issues and found a way to deal with them in your own way; but what happens if you haven’t found a way to manage?

It’s not just the issues that arise from working from home that need to be dealt with. These issues may come on top of other issues you were previously dealing with.

  • Perhaps you were already dealing with fear and anxiety over your health, career stability, and future outlook.
  • Perhaps you already had longstanding conflicts with your family members that remain unresolved.

It’s very possible you might be going though a lot, and the issues arising from being isolated at home for any length of time only make your existing issues worse.

In the present situation where it’s not safe to meet up with people to talk about your issues, you should seriously consider giving online counselling a chance. These are people who have trained to listen to your issues and concerns. It need not even be about any specific problem you are facing. They are there to listen to you and will allow you voice out your feelings and thoughts.

Online counselling is easily accessible, and in the current pandemic, one of the safest ways you can talk to someone if you need to figure out what is going on with your thoughts and emotions.

Talking about your issues is very powerful, even if you can’t find a resolution. It will allow you to organise your thoughts and feelings and make them more real so that you can properly describe what’s really affecting you and how. Otherwise your issues and problems remain bundled up in a confused mess with other thoughts and feelings that may or may not be related. Stewing in your own situation is never a good idea.

There are many people who have taken the step to become counsellors in order to help in situations such as the ones we are currently facing. They’re there for you if you need them. Perhaps one day, you’ll be one of these people taking a step forward to help others as well.

If you or someone you know might benefit from online counselling, contact us.

Our counsellors are ready to listen and talk with you to help you through this period. This is provided without charge, and your privacy will be protected and kept in the strictest of confidence.

Join us at College of Allied Educators to learn more about yourself, what motivates you, and how you can find happiness, meaning, and success in work, love, and life.
