College of Allied Educators is pleased to invite you to our SPEECH THERAPY WORKSHOP.

Join us on 18th August 2018 at College of Allied Educators for a workshop on how to identify and support children with communications and speech delay. The workshop welcomes all parents, caregivers, social workers, counsellors, students in Psychology, Education, Special Education, and anyone working with children.

If you have ever worked with children with speech delays and impairment, and have found yourself feeling unprepared or unable to provide the right kind of assistance, this workshop is for you.

This speech therapy workshop will provide a broad overview of communication impairments and the principles for managing them. The 6-hour workshop will cover:

  • How to identify children with speech delays & impairment
  • How to support children with autism & ADHD that may have speech delays
  • Learn the various intervention methods for supporting children with speech delay
  • Discover practical methods to effectively manage the speech therapy process

PRESENTER

ERIN GODECKE
Associate Professor Erin Godecke is a Research Fellow at Edith Cowan University and Speech Pathologist at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital in Perth.Prior to commencing the Research Fellowship, she worked as a speech pathologist in acute care hospitals in Western Australia for 13 years. She has extensive experience in the assessment and management of acute communication and swallowing disorders in adults, working in areas including General Medicine, Head and Neck Cancer, Geriatric Medicine and Neurology. Her research work focusses on enhancing natural brain recovery processes through early, intensive speech and language rehabilitation and improving services for long term recovery.Associate Professor Godecke’s research includes two National Health and Medical Research Council funded studies investigating the clinical and health-economic effects of very early and chronic aphasia rehabilitation; the benefits and barriers to enriching communicatively enhanced hospital environments, mapping the relationship between areas of brain injury on clinical scans and early recovery; and improving therapy techniques in rehabilitation.
