Vasu Govindasamy

Dr. Vasu is a researcher, administrator, educator, and clinician. He received his doctorate in educational leadership and justice, and his research was directed toward uplifting the academic outcomes of marginalized communities. Throughout his doctoral education, he received the Visionary scholarship award for academic excellence. Dr. Vasu believes in providing all students equal access to quality education and has participated in public conversations and presentations on educational justice. Aside from holding Speech Pathology licenses and credentials in both Singapore and the USA, Dr. Vasu is also trained in play therapy.

As a former inductee of the National Council of Social Services Sun Ray Scheme, he was seconded to Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and a local charity as a special project director. Vasu directed focus groups and grassroots discussions to develop the components of the early intervention programme. He also helped to improve the therapy services programme and worked closely with the CEO to enhance the recruitment and retention of allied health professionals.

Dr. Vasu taught courses in inclusion, special education, parent training, and speech-language disorders since 2001. His teaching and supervisory stint span many countries such as Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the U.S.A. In Singapore, Mr. Vasu taught at the National University of Singapore, College of Allied Educators, German European School, Australian International, and various private and public institutions. He has also written or contributed to articles and journals.

He was the founder of Communication for Life (SG), HeadStart for Life (SG), and Empowered for Life (USA) intervention centers. Currently, he consults at Ovspring Developmental Clinic (SG), practices and supervises at a high school in California, and is a clinical director at Empowered for life. He loves reading and enjoys Bonsai, mosaic art, painting, and collecting sea glass.
