There is a saying: “Healing doesn’t mean the scar is gone; it means it no longer controls you”. Healing is about moving forward to do what really matters in life while allowing the scar to be there.
The past sometimes does come back to haunt you, to take you back to painful memories, to hurt you. The private pain can sometimes cripple you. For some, they might feel psychologically stuck for days, months or years but only if we allow it to dominate our thoughts, to stunt us from furthering our lives.
So, why not just learn how to live with the scar for it is part of you. You don’t have to like it, but you are merely making room for it; you don’t have to fight it nor embrace it either. Just be open about it without resisting or judging it. The painful feeling or even anxiety for that matter might soon pass as quickly as it appears.
In doing so, you free yourself from the trap and enable yourself to doing something in congruence with your life’s values such as caring, compassion, fun-loving, connection, freedom, family, positivity, honesty, integrity, healthy living, country living, life-long learning.
What do you want your life to be about? Guided by the values you stand for, what would you like to or want to do? Go on a picnic with friends, do sports, have a meal with your family, start dating, get a new job or take up a course to learn something you’ve always been interested in? It’s time to get up and take action – do what really matters to you to lead a meaningful and enriching life.
The purpose of an effective counsellor is to learn, understand and apply the appropriate tools to help others live a meaningful life that is value guided.
Join us at College of Allied Educators to learn more about yourself, what motivates you, and how you can find happiness, meaning, and success in work, love, and life.
