This 6-month comprehensive Certificate in Child Psychology and Counselling (CPCS) part-time course introduces students to the fundamentals of a child’s psychological development. In addition, relevant counselling skills and theories, as well as various intervention strategies will be communicated to students by practitioners.

OBJECTIVES
To understand children’s developmental milestones and to learn relevant counselling skills to help and care for the well-being of children and adults.
PROGRAMME STRUCTURE
Students will first be introduced the theories and stages of developmental psychology, and followed similarly in the study of counselling. Theories of child psychology, such as Freud, Erikson and Piaget will be taught while the various developmental milestones, such as cognitive, language, social and physical will be presented to students as well. The students go on to acquire the critical foundational skills of counselling essential to work with children and the parents of children with special needs.

ASSESSMENT METHODS & GRADUATION
Each module will be formally assessed by written assignments, an examination, and role-play (Counselling module). Students must attend 75% of the classes to qualify for the examination.
CAE requires a minimum 90% attendance each month from its international students on ICA’s Student Pass.
To attain a pass in a module, students must achieve at least 50% combining both written assignment and final examination.
Students must successfully complete and pass all the stipulated course modules to be awarded the Certificate in Child Psychology and Counselling.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For admission to the Certificate in Child Psychology and Counselling programme:
- Minimum Age Requirement: 16 Years Old
- Language Proficiency: At least C6 at GCE O Level English, or equivalent
- Completed Secondary Education.
For applicants who do not meet the above entry requirements, on a case-by-case basis, they may be required to take on bridging modules FIRST, before enrolling into this course.
