Trying to figure out if the decisions you are making in life can be quite difficult. For many of us, being able to see that far out into the future and predicting the results of our decisions is an impractical and often near-impossible thing to do. In many cases, especially when making important life decisions, it can feel impossible.
Decision making is hard. The results can vary widely. A decision you make now could bear fruit many years in the future, or it could come back to bite you and make life really difficult.
While you will make important decisions throughout your life, the most important ones are life decisions that will have far-reaching effects.
Your education is one of the first important decision you will make. In most cases, it will be you who decided what you will eventually study and that decisions will often lead to what it is you intend to do. However, this is where most people may run into some trouble. They have no idea what they want to do or study.
Being unsure about what it is you want to do or which course you want to really study in can lead to uncertainty, wasted time, and higher cost for you. This can have far-reaching impact on your career and life prospects.
The next major decision is which career path you intend to step onto and build. This often carries over from what you decided to study. For others, it may be which trade they apprenticed and trained for. This is where you will spend years and decades building your career. You’ll be making decisions big and small that will increase your experience, connections, pay, and overall career success.
Making a mid-career switch is an increasingly popular trend – Channel News Asia
It’s also here where eventually, for many people, they eventually feel this career path wasn’t for them, or they may simply feel they want to do something else. For you, it may be a matter of feeling the draw of something that had interested you for as long as you can remember but chose not to previously pursue.
It’s at this point when you may feel the most fear and sense of dread. Any major decision regarding your career now may endanger your current lifestyle and throw you and your family life into chaos and disarray.
When so much of your life depends on the decisions you make, you have to make sure you try to make the right ones.
- Do you study something new now?
- Do you hold on to what you have?
- Do you follow your dream?
- What if you regret making the decision?
- What if you regret not making the decision?
For some people, they may jump all-in with everything and focus on making that decision a reality. The danger here is what happens when things don’t work out.
For others, a more cautious approach may be necessary. Take a step forward in any direction, then see where it leads. It may lead you to taking the next step forward and the next, or it may lead you sideways, or may even lead you right back. You don’t always have to drop everything to ensure your decisions are successful. You can make thoughtful, informed decisions based around understanding of yourself and your situation.
- Who am I?
- What do I want for myself?
- What motivates me?
- What is happiness, to me?
- What is success, to me?
These are important things you will need to know to be able to make informed decisions that work out for your needs and desires. Taking the first step is important, but so is knowing who you are.
These aren’t the only important decision-making points. There are other points in your life that will define your future. Who you decide to date and marry, whether you have children, how you raise them, what you do with your finances, etc…
Those too require a deeper understanding of yourself, your life, and what it is you really want for yourself and your family.
