We’re perpetually inundated with messages about being inspired. This happens because people seeking inspiration are seeking meaning and happiness in their lives. Everyone is trying to share how it happens, but there seems to always be a catch somewhere.
Inspiration can come and go. Even if you find it, it’s not someone you find and it’s with you forever and you can draw from it any time you like. You have no idea how long inspiration will stick around for, and just knowing that may be a downer for some of us who are trying to find our inspiration.
Lacking inspiration can often feel like there is nothing to work towards, or even wake up to. Without it, you’ll go through your day listless and without any sense of appreciation or meaning to your actions and decisions. This is why being inspired is so important. It can give us a sense of direction, urgency, and meaning to our actions and efforts.
For most of us, we’ve been inspired before by something, whether it be in sports, doing arts and craft, or doing something more humanitarian. For many, that inspiration could revolve around their career choices, or personal relationships. Inspiration helps us build and develop ourselves, but once it wanes, we’re often left feeling a little stranded and unsure of what we’ve been doing up til that point.
It’s important to understand and accept that it’s perfectly normal. Inspiration helps us get started, gives us a direction, gives us some meaning to our actions, but we still have to carry out the mission that we got ourselves on, regardless of what that may be. If you were inspired towards something, continue to work towards it. In most cases, the legwork is what eventually helps you achieve the mission you started working towards.
Part of being inspired is doing things, discovering new experiences and activities, perhaps even finding new career paths to move onto. Once you try and apply yourself, you’ll find it can really help you discover your inspiration, even if you lost it previously. A fresh experience and perspective is sometimes necessary, and we shouldn’t be afraid of trying something new to get there. That new experience may be necessary to give you perspective. It could even lead you right back to where you first started.
The point is to try things, work on it, get a feel for things, gain some new insights and perspectives, and you’ll grow. In that growth, inspiration will have a higher chance to strike again.
Join us at College of Allied Educators to learn more about yourself, what motivates you, and how you can find happiness, meaning, and success in work, love, and life.
