Getting started, as they say, is one of the most difficult things anyone can do. Is there some magical thing that allows some people to get started more easily than others?
If you’re like everyone else, you’ve probably come up with brilliant ideas about what you want to do and how you are going to do it. It could be about solving a problem at work, delivering some great performance, or starting a new business or new career. It always sounds great in your head, but you tend to find it just stays in your head.
You’ve also probably thought long and hard about why you end up still sitting on these ideas. You wake up the next day and just repeat the same days over and over again, but your amazing plan to change your life hasn’t been put into action.
If you have thought about making some life changes and have found it difficult to get up and get started, there are ways to pick yourself up and move on to making it happen.
Improving your energy level
Having low energy can really impact your willingness to do things and can have a deep impact on your motivation. How you manage energy levels can be as simple as getting enough rest and sleep. Proper rest and sleep can be so effective but can also be easily disrupted and interrupted. If you are constantly on your phone at night, or taking calls and answering messages, or checking the internet, this can be very disruptive. Y
ou can help yourself out by setting a sleep schedule where you set the time you need to sleep by, and at that point, you put everything down and stop all other activities. While this may seem obvious, the intent to do so can make the difference over knowing it should be done but not doing it. Once your sleep pattern becomes a habit, you’ll find it more automatic, and you won’t have to think much about it. Your energy levels will start increasing and you’ll have more energy to do the things you want and need to do.
Align your goals with your passion
If you are finding it hard to get started, it may also be that you are dreaming about doing things that aren’t within your skillset, so there isn’t much passionate or motivation for it. You’ve probably read a lot about how people across the internet have made their hobbies into a career or made some measure of success doing something interesting to them.
The reason it’s easy for some people to sometimes jump from their hobbies to making it a career is because it’s their hobby and they have a deep interest in that thing. They’ve probably taken time and energy to learn more about it; meaning they have invested in themselves for that subject. It makes them an expert or increases their expertise in that subject area of interest.
For example, people who collect toys may know where to get unique and rare toys, how much they can expect to pay and sell it off for, and who the audience is for these collectibles. They become experts in their area of interest.
For you, figure out what it is you have skill and training for, and if you don’t have them, maybe decide to get the proper training and education. For example, if you are interested to be help people, and have an innate ability to listen and understand people, you can always help those around you. However, to have the biggest impact, you’d study and get certified. By doing this, you’ll learn things you wouldn’t otherwise by doing it yourself. You are making yourself into an expert and increasing your ability and skill.
By doing this, your dream about helping people can be much closer, and you’ve already started moving towards it by taking the action to inform and educate yourself.
There are more ways for you to help yourself up and living the way you dream about but managing your energy levels and ensuring you are equipped to with the knowledge and skills is a good start.
